In early August, bonito fill in around the usual haunts surrounding Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard’s outer shoals. Here are a few tips on how to target them.

Here’s a list of techniques for this situation that I have put into my arsenal from over the years of fishing for these unpredictable speedsters from the Outer Banks to Cape Cod.

When it comes to albies, anglers travel far and wide chasing rumors, reports and secret tips. Sometimes they are easy to find. Others, not so much. In any event, here’s a guide to some of the haunts that have produced fish for me over the past 25 years that I have been chasing these funny fish.

In mid September, Salty Cape’s Matt Rissell drove out to Chappaquiddick with MV locals Joe Rogers and Phoenix Russell to fish for false albacore on the island’s southeast corner, hoping to attract fish in from the shoals of Wasque.

On a beautiful mid-September day in Vineyard Sound, we joined Capt. Jamie Simmons of Buzzards Bay Outfitters for one of the best days of albie fishing we’ve had all season.
