When false albacore finally show up in numbers to chase peanut bunker and bay anchovies, it’s one of the most visually exciting fisheries Cape Cod has to offer. On a beautiful mid-September day in Vineyard Sound, we joined Capt. Jamie Simmons of Buzzards Bay Outfitters for one of the best days of albie fishing we’ve had all season.

The Salty Cape team heads out with Buzzards Bay Outfitters in search of bonito on a pre-work trip in mid-August, finding topwater feeds and big bluefish along the way. Filmed August 16, 2017
In mid September, Salty Cape’s Matt Rissell drove out to Chappaquiddick with MV locals Joe Rogers and Phoenix Russell to fish for false albacore on the island’s southeast corner, hoping to attract fish in from the shoals of Wasque.
On this memorable September morning, Captains Mike Hogan, Terry Nugent and Shaun Ruge tied into a solid pod of fish.
