In recent years, Nantucket has been known mostly for the bluefish that patrol the eastern shore near Sankaty Light. Great Point is also a known bluefish haunt. In the fall, try the western shore for bonito and albies in places like Tuckernuck and the Bonito Bar.

Bonito Bar has slowed appreciably but folks are still catching all four species up around Great Point.

There is nothing remarkable about the fish right now, with perhaps the most interesting news this week concerned large numbers of albies off the Cisco area, with the little tunny coming in close enough to give shore anglers a shot.

Great Point has been the hotspot for albies on the island, reported Dave Stetson at Bill Fisher Tackle; he caught nine there earlier this week while fishing from shore using metal lures and Epoxy Jigs.

During the first few weeks of August 2016, bonito have filled in around the usual haunts surrounding Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard’s outer shoals. Anglers stopping on their way back from offshore have had no trouble picking a few up for the grill. Capt. Mike Hogan and Capt. Shaun Ruge went out in search of some morning fish southwest of the Nantucket islands on Wednesday August 10th and after some searching, the bonito bite did not disappoint. The troll and cast routine was productive (troll jigs and swimmers to locate, saturate the area of a caught fish or bait concentrations with blind casts for more then move on).
