MV local Joe Rogers heads to the salt ponds of Martha’s Vineyard to hunt for offseason striped bass on a mild January afternoon. Throwing 4″ Hogy Pro Tails from his aluminum skiff, Joe found what he was looking for by landing a 32″ keeper to finish off the day.

In late April, Nantucket Sound fills with spawning loligo squid, creating an excellent opportunity for anglers to stock up on offshore baits for later in the season or grab a few for the grill. Jeff Fortin and Kevin Gould of Falmouth were fishing in Buzzards Bay on the morning of Tuesday May 16th when they hooked into a monster 64-pound striped bass.

There are few better baits for big striped bass than freshly caught squid. That’s why the Salty Cape team went down to one of our favorite secret striper spots last week and captured a hungry school demolishing loligos on the surface.

The 2nd Annual BBO Shootout was held on June 16th. The catch & release tournament featured 40 anglers from all over the Cape & Islands and the fishing was excellent, with multiple 20+ pound fish caught throughout the day.
