While the southside of the Cape appears to be holding mainly slot sized bass, with a few mid 30 to over 40-inch fish, the waters from the bay on up to Boston are holding some truly large fish feeding on schools of pogies.

It was interesting to hear Jeff Miller from Canal Bait and Tackle in Sagamore talk about the tube-and-worm bite close in from Sandwich over to Barnstable Harbor in Cape Cod Bay because at this time of year it is more common to get news about folks livelining mackerel. The shop regulars who troll latex continued to have a good day today after a solid weekend in which their focus was on catching fish in the recreational 28 to LESS than 31 inches.
People often ask if having the worm on the hook makes a difference and I don’t know anyone who would say it doesn’t. Overall, this technique is as relaxing as it comes, especially when Capt. Mike has done a lot of the work de-mystifying what makes one tube fish better than another with his Hogy Perfect Tube.
Check out Capt. Mike’s Tube and Worm Striper Trolling/In Line Trolling Weights video on the Hogy Lure website in which he fishes the same waters as mentioned above – although on hot, steamy calm day. There is a video of Capt. Mike and Capt. Nat Chalkley tubing in Woods Hole in the middle of summer, once again showing the versatility of this trolling technique.
