Cape Cod Fishing Report: 6/4/2024
Nantucket Sound
REALLY nice day filming in Nantucket Sound. Took a few friends out on shoot to show the “behind scenes” of a Salty TV One angler was brand new to fishing. In my line of work I don’t fish with enough newbies. I was reminded how invigorating it is to see such an awesome sport through a beginner’s eyes.
Typically I like to start the day with the topwater action then hit sea bass on the way home. But since we were departing right into a slack tide, we decided to reverse the order, with the idea being that she bass are more forgiving on a slack tide. We searched out good structure by Bishops and Clerks and stopped on some good bottom. I was thrilled, as I got to test out the (New Product) Groundfish Biki Jig and get a sweet Salty TV installment with monster bass at slack tide. We were thumping the jig on the bottom and quickly got our limit while we waited for current to pick up.
Once the tide picked up further south toward the Wasque area, we made the run. I later heard there were plenty of fish in all the rips so I guess the run was unnecessary! Our approach was to stem the tide and fish the swing with the trusty Hogy Charter Grade Popper in Amber and TW white both re-rigged with Hogy flag on aft end. All with magical weather. Banner day.
