Bournedale Herring Run (Mainland Side) #654

Large parking area along Route 6 Scenic Highway.

Located at about the mid point in the canal and with plenty of parking, this area is the most popular area to fish along the Cape Cod Canal. In the spring when herring are gathering for their ascent up the run the striper fishing can be fantastic but when the word is out expect shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. With the severe decline in herring stocks this area is not nearly as productive as it once was but that doesn’t stop the crowds from gathering. Remember that it is forbidden to catch or use herring for bait! Some savvy canal anglers will also look for baby herring dumping out of the run in late summer and early fall. This is not a predictable event but if you’re there when it happens the striper fishing can be fantastic.
