Squibnocket

Squibnocket, located on the Southwest corner of Martha’s Vineyard was once more popular than it is today. In the late 90s and early 2000s you would see far more boats here. The area was legendary for its large stripers. Though that population no longer inhibits the area, Squibnocket is still an incredibly fishy place. You can always count on schools of stripers here in early spring. Big sea bass too.  Light Tackle anglers enjoy working the structure in tight.  (1)  If large ocean swells are breaking at the point, stay well out and cast into the wash created by the breaking waves. Trollers find their way to the “hump” field just south in about 25’ of water holds resident fish cruising the area. Just troll the area and drop lures on big targets on the finder. Squibnocket is the ultimate tube and worm spot. (2) If this area is too rough, head over to the shallow spots at (3). A rip lays up here. Classic tube and worm spot too!

  • Lat & Long:  41°22’ x 70°48’
  • Best Tide:  Outgoing to low slack.
  • Hazards:  Large boulders off Squibnocket Point; strong rip close to shore combined with waves and swells from offshore will try to push your boat into the boulder field at the Point.
