South Beach MV Striper Report – May 1, 2016

Martha’s Vineyard’s South Beach has been a paradise for surf anglers for over two weeks now. Fat, healthy stripers to 30 inches and dozens of osprey crashing into a strong herring run made for a memorable excursion last Sunday for Salty Cape’s Matt Rissell and MV local Joe Rogers.

Armed with 7-foot light tackle setups and Hogy SE Barbarians, Matt and Joe had a blast catching large schoolies grubbing on spearing, sand fleas and clams tight to the beach. Warming waters and an outgoing tide provided the best conditions, and this wasn’t a one-tide bite either.

As the Southside of MV usually sees the striper migration a few days before everyone else on Cape & Islands, it shouldn’t be long until the entire region sees similar surf conditions.
