Spring fishing on Cape Cod this year has been nothing short of AMAZING. Everywhere we have fished around Cape Cod has been loaded with fish from 5 pounds to nearly 65 pounds. We have been moving around and trying to find and focus on the schools of larger baitfish, like Pogies, Herring and Mackerel. Find the BIG bait, Find the BIG fish. Once we find the big baitfish, our go to lure has been the white Hogy Pro Tail in 2 and 3 ounce sizes. This lure has produced dozens of fish over 30 pounds, a bunch over 40-pound and several 50-pound class fish for us only 3 weeks into this season! A fast erratic retrieve with short but pronounced pauses has been the key to getting the big bass to commit. The Pro Tails dive and still swim on the pause which looks like a baitfish trying to escape. It’s that change of pace and direction that triggers the fish to strike and not just follow. If this early push of big fish is any indication of how the rest of the season is going to progress June is going to be EPIC!
