Salty Cape reader Derek BenDavid was out fishing with his father Jules and friend Jon Laird aboard Captain Kurt Freund’ Fish Stick Charters when they stumbled upon excellent topwater mahi fishing near the Dump.
As is often times the case south of the Vineyard this time of year, the mahi bite is a more reliable option than the yellowfin or bluefin bites. When looking for mahi south of the Vineyard, a common technique is to search for any type of topwater structure (hi-flier lobster pots, buoys, or even pieces of floating debris like a cardboard box) and take a few exploratory casts underneath. Epoxy jigs will work well for this.
Thanks again Derek for the video!
