Salty Cape reader Chris Junda fished Chatham the past few days and was able to find keeper stripers while vertical jigging.
In his own words:
“There has been a sporadic striper bite for the last several weeks from Monomoy to Chatham and up to Nauset. One day is pretty good the next day you take the skunk. Guys putting in the time and hitting it daily are finding fish but it requires some effort to try different spots and lures. The best fishing is often nowhere near the fleet.
It’s been mainly a vertical jig bite. We have been using green Epoxy Jigs, SI Diamond Jigs with a green stinger and the SI Sand Eel jigs in green which work especially well because of their thin profile and heavy weight. Today the fish wouldn’t hit anything else.
[On Wednesday] it took us several hours to find the fish and then they were finicky. After having many of our usual offerings rejected, my son Rudy caught several nice bass on a 2.5 oz SI Green Sand Eel jig, including the one in the picture above.”
