Outer Cape Fishing Report – September 7, 2017

Despite a lack of angling activity, Paul Newmier at Blackbeard’s in Eastham heard of some success this week on the outer beaches.

One angler he knows that visits from New York took the ferry across to South Beach, which is now an island, and he got into a good number of six-pound bluefish tossing plugs the other day.

Meanwhile, a couple of fishermen visited the shop and showed Paul a photo of a 20-pound bass that they caught from the Race Point swimming beach on a Daiwa SP Minnow; they also managed a number of smaller stripers. They reported seeing massive schools of peanut bunker and Paul got to see for himself since they took a video of the scene on their smart phone. He also noticed that there was nobody else on the beach.

This occurred in the morning, not super early based on the level of light in the video. In contrast, Paul spoke to a local who drove the beach up to Race Point the same day and found absolutely no life. I guess what they say is true; the key is location, location, location!
