Outer Cape Fishing Report – September 23, 2016

Boaters making the run from Chatham Inlet up to Nauset Inlet have been catching some good sized stripers on everything from flies to jigs to plugs, both inside and just outside the inlets. There has been a vertical jig bite in about 70 feet of water in this same stretch, reports Paul Newmier.

Paul added there has been a good mix of small bass and bluefish around Newcomb Hollow, Head of the Meadow and Race Point. Swimming plugs such as SP Minnows and Bombers have been a good choice at night, along with Salty’s, Gibbs, and Super Strike Needlefish, while morning action has been mainly on pencil poppers and other surface plugs.

Fresh sand eels, if you can get them, and seaworms have also been catching some small bass from Wellfleet to Provincetown.
