Outer Cape Fishing Report – June 26, 2015

Paul Newmier had some good news; folks are catching bass in the 20 to 24-inch in various spots on the backside beaches, including Coast Guard in Eastham, Marconi in Wellfleet, and Race Point in Provincetown. SP Minnows are rapidly becoming a favorite of shore anglers in these areas due to their casting distance and great action. Live eels are also working at night around the Race. Chunk mackerel has also been effective on Nauset Beach, along with fresh sand eels.

As of a couple of days ago, said Elise Costa, there have been schools of pogies up inside Stage Harbor and folks using bubblegum soft plastics fished under them have been catching some legal sized bass. This has been an early morning and twilight bite.

There were a handful of boats fishing off of Chatham today as the bite just hasn’t started off of Chatham Inlet and up to Nauset Inlet. It should be interesting to see if it is slow as it was last year or if it turns gangbusters; I suspect it will be the former.
