Outer Cape Fishing Report – June 1, 2018

What great news that the beaches all along the backside up to Provincetown are holding bass, mainly schoolies, but enough to make things interesting.

Paul Newmier at Blackbeard’s in Eastham spoke to one couple who fished Race Point who reported catching 90 stripers using plugs, including a couple of fish just over the legal limit of 28-inches.

The Daiwa SP Minnow has become a popular plug from the outer beaches as it makes a good sand eel imitation, as do soft plastics, which you can rig in a multitude of ways to deal with the depth of the water and the surf conditions.

Ultimately, as Paul said, many, many folks who fish the backside use bait, especially sand eels, preferring to cast out and wait.
