I did speak to Larry Roberts on Monday and this visitor from Lexington, Kentucky was pretty excited because he managed to catch a number of small bass and one 30-inch fish while plugging a local beach in Chatham. He added that the flyrodder who was fishing near him caught about 50 schoolies.
The waters around Morris Island and up inside Pleasant Bay remain a good bet for smaller bass and as the schools of big fish up around Provincetown and Truro began to thin out and scatter, it should be interesting to see how they settle in along the backside.
To avoid the crowds up around Provincetown, some boaters are working down off Truro and Wellfleet, where they are finding big fish feeding on sand eels and mackerel. At times, these bigger bass are pushing bait on top and the birds will give them away, but having a good depth sounder is a must when they are hugging the bottom.
