Outer Cape Fishing Report – July 21, 2016

Paul Newmier reported that shore anglers have seen boaters working on breaking fish outside Nauset Inlet; he suspects they are bass since this small fleet has been seen mainly on commercial days.

Then again, they might be a mix of bass and the big bluefish that charged the beaches up in Wellfleet this week; a 16.5-pound blue was weighed in and these fish have been a blast on topwater plugs.

Other than that, folks bottom fishing with sand eels or cut mackerel are picking at some small bass, with plugs such as Daiwa SP Minnows and Bombers, rigged with a teaser above, the choice of dedicated casters who still fish the sand. Eels are another choice, but they are also producing mainly schoolies along any of the backside beaches.
