Offshore Fishing Report – September 13, 2018

Chuck Eastman from Eastman’s Sport & Tackle in Falmouth showed me a video that was shot on board Capt. Damon Sacco’s boat, Castafari, last weekend out at the canyons; the individual who booked the charter said “it was a trip of a lifetime,” as they caught six bigeye, a number of white marlin, and plenty of mahi.

According to Kevin Downs from Falmouth Bait & Tackle in the Teaticket section of Falmouth, there have been good numbers of 50 to 60-pound yellowfin caught out around Atlantis. Bars, skirted and naked ballyhoo, and single lures have all been working. The white marlin fishing has also remained excellent.

Kevin added the giant bluefin bite remains good out east of Chatham and up in Cape Cod Bay. Spin anglers have also been getting shots at breaking fish chasing halfbeaks in the bay as well as off the backside from the Golf Balls to Nauset. Apparently, these tuna aren’t school or even smaller medium school fish, but often are just shy of the 73-inch giant minimum, so make sure you are in shape if you decided to fish for them or bring along a crew to share the pleasure and pain.
