Offshore Fishing Report – September 1, 2016

It’s highly unlikely that anyone will be offshore this weekend, at least if they have any sense. Perhaps things will get stirred up around the canyons, where the water remains flat (in terms of temperature) with no breaks to stack up bait. Billfish continue to be the main species caught, with an occasional blue mixed in with the larger number of whites. Some bigger mahi have been caught on the troll as well.

Jim Young said that a few larger bluefin (70-inch and up) have been caught from north of and into the Dump itself. A few white marlin have been caught trolling ballyhoo, with some smaller mahi caught trolling around the high flyers.

Christian Giardini heard there was a cast-and-pop fishery on bluefin in the 40 to 60-inch range off of the Golf Ball, while live bait, mainly bluefish, has been the way to go up around the southeast corner of Stellwagen.
