Offshore Fishing Report – October 11, 2018

The bluefin tuna bite in Cape Cod Bay and the waters just north of there continues to be hot.

The giant bluefish fishing up around Stellwagen remains very good; although I was told that the October quota was filled, I couldn’t confirm that by checking the NMFS website. I did hear that some folks had to pay to have their fish shipped overseas, perhaps indicating a glut in the Japanese/Asian market.

Todd Benedict at Falmouth Bait & Tackle in the Teaticket section of Falmouth across from McDonald’s said that there have been increased numbers of “castable” tuna up off Provincetown and the shipping lanes, but folks are still hooking up with fish that are straightening hooks and breaking tackle.

Christian Giardini, who was working out back in the shop, hollered out to Todd that the tuna that had been out east of Chatham around the Regal Sword are starting to move south.
