As has been the case so far this season, all eyes are looking east of Chatham where the bluefin bite has been the best game in town. Live bait has been the most productive method, with folks jigging up mackerel or bottom fish that are present in the area and then live-lining them. These are big fish and nothing to fool with.
Steve Morris reported that other than blue and mako sharks between the Claw and the Shipping Lanes, things have been very quiet south of the Vineyard and out at the Canyons. It seems that there hasn’t been a break of good water that will draw the fish up from New Jersey and New York. There is plenty of bait offshore, but the bite just hasn’t started.
