Offshore Fishing Report – August 4, 2016

The bluefin bite south of the Vineyard has been somewhat inconsistent, with the northeast corner apparently holding fish more frequently. Doug Asselin told me that one Vineyard boat he spoke to went all over the Dump last Sunday and came up empty, while the previous day another angler managed five bluefin.

Although most folks are still trolling green machine bars and skirted ballyhoo, with Capt. Joe Shute lures still very popular and productive, if the fish won’t come up to play, then dropping a Hogy Tuna Epoxy Jig or Harness Jig on them can work wonders. That’s where good electronics come in, to help you mark bait and fish. There are some nice mahi being caught south of the Vineyard, with spinning and fly tackle a great way to target them if you find them holding around any flotsam or weed patches.

When I spoke to the folks on Nantucket, they said there really hadn’t been a weather window until today, so they were hoping to have a report for me later today.
