Offshore Fishing Report – August 25, 2016

Steve Morris returned Thursday from an overnight trip to West Atlantis; they went three for four on white marlin, using naked ballyhoo on the troll. They also caught some small bluefin tuna and mahi up to 20+-pounds. He also heard that other points picked up marlin as well.

Matt Reinemo picked up a sailfish along with a white marlin trolling the canyons recently, another good indication of how good the billfish bite has been. He added that he heard that the bluefin bite had improved around the Star, particularly on skirted ballyhoo.

East of Chatham, there have been some bluefin around the Regal Sword, but overall the fishing has been tough. On the other hand, there have been some schools of skipjack and they are providing an alternative when the bluefin aren’t cooperating.
