Nantucket Fishing Report – July 20, 2017

Many anglers who fish bass earlier in the season have turned their attention to offshore, where there area good number of white marlin about 15-miles south of the island. There are some small yellowfin and bluefin at the Northeast Corner of the Dump and the Claw, but there have also been some giant bluefin hooked.

Those boaters who stick with inshore fishing have been doing OK with bluefish at Great Point and Sankaty; some of the rips are also holding bass. Miacomet is one area that Adam Fasci from Nantucket Tackle Center recommended for bass, as well as Madequecham. The flats are still holding fish, but with so many flies having been tossed their way, they are getting fussy.

The best news of all is that three bonito were caught today at the Bonito Bar; Adam said this early for the bones and perhaps it signals the start of an exceptionally good funny fish season.
