Matt Manera at the Nantucket Tackle Center confirmed that the Bonito Bar continues to fish very well, with multiple fish being caught on the incoming tide. The Yo-zuri Deep Diving Crystal Minnow is an island favorite, but Epoxy Jigs are also effective along with other traditional funny fish metal jigs such as Deadly Dicks. On a trip last weekend to the Hooter, Charlie Richmond of the Osterville Anglers’ Club reported that they caught six bonito and a mix of blues, sea bass, and one 28-inch striper.
Matt also told me that a few albies have caught so far in the same area. There are bluefish pretty much all around the island, although boaters would do well to check from the Old Man up to Great Point. Shore anglers are also finding some blues from the southside beaches, while their best bet for stripers has been fishing plugs around the Cisco area. The fluke bite east of Sankaty is still good, but the average size fish is definitely smaller with far fewer genuine doormats.
