Monomoy Fishing Report – September 11, 2015

The word is that the rips are definitely fishing the best they have this year, in terms of consistency from day-to-day. Bass are being caught on flies being drifted on leadcore back into the rips, with casting soft plastics also working well. No surprise that Handkerchief is one of the top areas being mentioned, with Bearse’s and Stonehorse also fishing well. There are bluefish around and if you find yourself inundated with them, then moving elsewhere is a good idea since they will almost always beat the bass to your lure.

Some albies are being caught along the shoreline of south Monomoy, both on the sound and Atlantic side. It is not uncommon to find these fish right in tight to the sand and they won’t always show; identifying current breaks and rip lines will help increase your success. Funny fish in these areas often feed on sand eels, so keep that in mind when choosing lures and flies.
