On my last trip out east, we found good numbers of very fussy bass at Bearses and apparently the fishing has been hot and cold based on the fishes’ moods. We were fishing on a calm, sunny day with incredibly clear water and the bass were just milling around. They were, however, feeding on the surface at times and a quick, accurate cast produced results.
Bubblegum and amber seven-inch Original Hogy’s produced some fish, but overall it was a tough go. We saw a few squid flying around, but based on what I saw, it looked like the bass were primarily feeding on sand eels.
Handkerchief Shoal was also holding some bass, but not as many as Bearses; there were also bluefish around the point and on the grass patches along South Monomoy.
