I know of one angler who fished the Vineyard yesterday after a couple of frustrating days around the southside of the Cape, but he found no life to speak of from Vineyard Haven to Oak Bluffs, as well as off Tashmoo.

Later that day, I heard that the albies were concentrated around Edgartown, while shore anglers continue to weigh in bonito on a regular basis, even if they are generally small fish. Given the fact that before Jose paid a visit, there were good numbers of bones being caught by boaters from Squibnocket to Noman’s, I suspect that many of the shore caught bonito are coming from around Menemsha.

The first over 30-pound bass was entered in the Derby; it was a boat fish and a number of boaters entered in this Vineyard tradition have been fishing pogies or eels along the Elizabeths and that is most likely where any Derby boat winner will come from.
