Now that the Derby is in full swing, it’s not easy getting information on bass and blues, said Doug Asselin. There is some word of bluefish down around Chappy and the odds are that any sizable bass are coming up island. Doug added that there are numerous places where albies have been caught, with the hotspot changing every couple of days: Edgartown, Menemsha, State Beach, and Chappy have all had their days. Most of the boat bonito action has been between the Hooter, where some big bluefish have also been caught, and the rips towards Nantucket. Some bonito are also being caught by folks trolling Pet spoons for bass around Squibnocket and Menemsha is typically a good bet for shore bones.
