Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Report – September 11, 2015

The Derby starts at 12:01 AM this Sunday and it’s a pretty good bet that most folks will be concentrating on getting their albie weigh-in out the way; there have been fish caught from shore around Edgartown and State Beach, in particular, although Menemsha blew up today, said Steve Morris. Boat anglers are finding them pretty much all around the island, including between Gay Head and Noman’s and around Squibnocket. Folks are still catching bonito at the Hooter, but shore anglers who have them targeted are keeping pretty close-mouthed about where they have been finding bones; Tashmoo is typically a good bet during the early stages of the Derby, as is Middle Ground and Cape Poge. Bass fishing is very slow, with any shore catches being made up island on plugs; boat fish are also scarce, with Squibnocket to Gay Head still the only area where fish of any size have been caught trolling deep diving plugs or the tube-and-worm.
