Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Report – October 30, 2015

Doug Asselin reported that a couple of his friends went down with some frozen squid and managed a 22-pound bass from the beach and he has seen photos of a couple of other shore caught stripers in the 15 to 20-pound class caught this week. Doug emphasized that it is not a matter of pinpointing any island location, but getting out there and hoping to intercept any fish moving through. He spoke to one local who was headed out of Tashmoo to do some conking and ran into feeding fish, but had no rod with him; the next day, another angler went to the same area and it was dead. There was also a report of breaking fish from Oak Bluffs and down around State Beach, while a couple of funny fish were caught off Menemsha this week. Some folks said bonito, but Doug thinks they might have been albies. The best fishing remains the squid activity in Edgartown; Doug said that some of the Loligo’s caught have had tubes in the 24-inch range. He and his buddies went down with light tackle, caught some of them, and freeze packed them for swordfish baits for 2016.
