Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Report – October 20, 2016

Steve Morris reported that he is enjoying the nice leisurely pace of life that is the post-Derby on the island. He went tautog fishing on Monday and Tuesday along the Elizabeths and did OK in spots where the commercial guys weren’t; that fishery closed on Tuesday, so that will make it even easier for regular folks to fish their favorite spots. There are still some smaller bass up inside the salt ponds and harbors and Edgartown had some bigger bluefish working on the schools of pogies thereabouts. Both Cape Poge and the Gut have had albies, and a few have been around Vineyard Haven, but Steve suspects that the winds this weekend could mean the end to the funny fish season. He hadn’t heard from anyone directly of any bonito, but he did get a second hand report that someone went out to the Hooter and caught a few.
