Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Report – July 10, 2015

Doug Asselin said the island is filled with bait and smaller bass, but that isn’t enough for many folks. It seems that everyone got spoiled back when there were trophy fish pretty much everywhere you went; for Doug, dropping down to light tackle and soft plastics has made for some great fishing in Vineyard Haven where he has been catching bass from the beach without even putting his waders on.

Bluefish in the rips of the Sound have been a go-to for Vineyard boat anglers this week.

There is an incredible amount of squid around the island, from State Beach to Edgartown and up island around Menemsha and Gay Head. Doug was at Norton Point over the weekend and saw one bluefish caught and overall things are quieter on the blues, but for the charter captains who have had just a few days here and there where some bass were caught at Middle Ground and Wasque, the bluefish at Horseshoe have been very important to putting a bend in the rods. Those shore anglers who are putting their time in, as in all night, up island have been picking up some stripers on needlefish and Danny plugs.
