Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Report – August 25, 2016

The word from Steve Morris is that the bonito bite has been good consistently been the Hooter and Gay Head; the key is knowing where the bones are going to be from day-to-day, as opposed to the schools of bluefish that typically force them out of an area. Squibnocket has had good trolling activity, Steve explained, but they have been on top at times as well. A few have also been caught trolling around Middle Ground, with mainly small bluefish along East Beach and down to Chappaquidick. In addition, Steve heard of an albie caught from the Menemsha jetty in the last day or so, and another was caught off of Chappy. The bass action has been pretty slow around the island, with a few still being caught at night from Gay Head and along the north shore, particularly on eels and plugs. For sea bass, the best action has been in the deep water between Gay Head and Noman’s.
