How To: Rig A Vertical Jig

Vertical jigs are an excellent way to target fish holding in deep water. They are effective on nearly all species of fish.

Important Tips

  1. Be absolutely sure to keep a tight line to the jig. Avoid slack.
  2. Use braid for best results – the combination of no stretch in the line and thin diameter let the jig get deeper and you’ll feel even the slightest hit.
  3. Use a sharp upward motion with the rod, then allow the jig to find bottom again. Hits may come on both the upward motion or as the jig drops. Remember: no slack in the line!
