Elizabeth Islands Fishing Report – June 1, 2018

There is no lack of activity in Woods Hole right now. Matt Rissell told me that he and a fellow angler were into mid-30 to 40-inch bass feeding on baby squid earlier this week, while there are also a number of big, adult squid being harassed by bass from the mid-20-inch range on up.

This 35-inch bass was caught on a Hogy 10″ Original in amber on Monday afternoon.

I got the chance to fish with Robert Lartigue on Wednesday, and along with a beautiful morning in the Hole, Robert managed some solid size stripers on the fly rod using poppers around slack water.

Jim Young at Eastman’s in Falmouth reported that a number of impressive stripers have been caught on poppers, along with a 25-pound bass caught on live bait, most likely a scup.

Wire line jigging is also working, with some mid-30-inch bass caught from the deeper main channel and the channels between the ledges.

I fished the Buzzards Bay side of the Elizabeths on Wednesday and found very little life, but Jim advised that there are plenty of smaller bass on the sound side, as well as in the holes between the islands.
