A good slug of smaller bass have also pushed in from Buzzards Bay and worked their way towards the herring run. Many of these schoolies are too small to handle an adult alewife, but that doesn’t keep them from trying, which can be comical at times.

The land cut was producing a few larger bass around the east end, but generally things have been pretty slow this week as of Thursday. Getting deep has been the key to catching these fish, meaning bucktail jigs and jigheads paired up with soft plastics have been the way to go.
