The Big Ditch has slowed a bit, but that is all relative given that it was fish city starting last Thursday and running through Monday.
Pencil poppers, Sebile Magic Swimmers and Stick Shadds, Savage Sand Eels, Daiwa SP Minnows all have been working, as long as they are either white or green mackerel.
There has been a brief topwater bite in the morning, especially around the east end, but that is if you can reach them as the fish are out in the middle of the Canal chasing mackerel. Once the sun is over the horizon, the tendency is for the fish to stay subsurface, with some of the best fishing around the end of the west and turn to the east current.
There has also been an afternoon bite, again on the turn of the tide from west to east, with bass from Cape Cod Bay moving in to chase mackerel and a similar scenario at the west end as there have been schools of mackerel stacked up from Onset to Gray Gables.
