Cape Cod Bay Fishing Report – May 12, 2016

There are definitely mackerel out east of the Canal, but other than seals, not much else is bothering them. They should also begin to show outside of Barnstable Harbor very soon, initiating the liveline show down that way, with boats zipping between the entrance bell and their favorite holes and drifts inside the harbor proper.

Smaller bass are being caught in increasing numbers inside the harbor, with an outgoing tide in the late afternoon particularly productive this time of year. Small pencil poppers, walk-the-dog plugs such as Rebel Jumpin’ Minnows and Zara Spooks, and smaller soft plastics are excellent choices.
