Buzzards Bay Fishing Report – September 4, 2015

There are funny fish in the bay, from bonito around Marion and off of West Falmouth, and a few albies reported out by Cleveland Light. Tuesday, it was difficult getting on the small schools of fish as they were up and down really quickly. Folks have reported seeing albies out off Quissett and Gunning Point, but it’s bones that folks are running to the bay for.

Schools of bass keep leaking out of the Canal and the larger fish have been caught on umbrella rigs made with soft plastic shads, particularly those that imitate mackerel. 40-inch fish are been caught this week, mainly trolling, with the best shads imitating a mackerel or they can be doctored up permanent markers.

There are plenty of bluefish around, particularly in upper Buzzards Bay from Phinney’s Harbor over to Marion, with some schools of smaller bass on top as well. The bluefish have also been around from West Falmouth down to Quissett.
