Very, very quiet, said Mike Thomas, as anyone catching fish is keeping it to himself. Livelining is definitely the way to go, with some folks still running through the Canal to jig up some mackerel and then looking for some fish to use them on. The holes and humps from Hog Island to Mashnee Island are always popular among the regulars.
You will have to pick your way through a number of fluke or sea bass to get legal sized fish, but that isn’t the problem with scup. Mike added that the Lady K out of Onset found some weakfish earlier this week out in the deeper water between Bird Island and Cleveland Ledge.
There has been some talk about funny fish to the west and it sure would be nice if they show up earlier around the west entrance to the Canal.
