While many fishermen are concentrating their efforts on the flats off Barnstable and dunking bait chunks in the channel off Beach Point, those with kayaks or shallow draft boats with find plenty of action in the many small creeks that enter Barnstable Harbor and in the narrow channels between the islands in the far inner reaches of this huge harbor. The key is to work your way into these places during the two hours just before high tide, then work your way out to deeper water as the tide drops. With a tidal depth variation almost eight feet (depending on the phase of the moon) the stripers are always on the move in B-Harbor – but once you find a productive little backwater you can be sure the fish will return time and again until the water warms up too much in early July.
